Mark reports five stories Jesus used to teach his very diverse audience in Galilee. Why did Jesus teach with stories? These strange stories are change stories. Jesus wanted to redefine his audience’s expectations of the kingdom of God. He wanted to shift their perspective. He wanted people to scratch their heads. He wanted people to ask questions. He wanted to explain God’s kingdom.
